“TaKeTiNa is not only a profession in the field of music. It is also a tool to cope with daily life. It is deeply fulfilling to see how participants develop personally and musically during a training course and lead groups with TaKeTiNa. That inspires me every day to give my best – as a musician and as a teacher. That’s my passion, that’s what I live for.”

TaKeTiNa is:

Based on ancient knowledge about the healing power of rhythm and music and years of development and experience, TaKeTiNa is a rhythmic group process for self-development that helps us to awaken and expand our musical and personal potential. It works with the original rhythmic building and primal rhythmic movements that exist everywhere in nature, and in music.

The discovery of primal rhythmic movements was the starting point of the evolution of the TaKeTiNa process, that has helped thousands of musicians around the globe to develop skills that are usually difficult to manifest, such as deep rhythmic orientation, a great left right coordination, the ability to create groove and access to the essence of rhythm which is the blueprint that connects all the different rhythmic expressions and concepts.

TaKeTiNa enables you to develop a body memory of these primal elements: the off-beats, the polyrhythms, and the whole range of complex cycles. Once your body knowledge is opened with TaKeTiNa, counting is no longer needed. In this learning process the body is your primal instrument – with the voice, clapping and steps you are gradually guided into the simultaneity of three different rhythmic layers. This naturally overwhelms your thinking mind and allows a source of deeper knowledge to open up. You are merging with the rhythmic flow.

This process does not require any previous musical knowledge and invites all participants to walk at their own pace. It promotes an inner presence, creativity and musicality and enables us to recognize our individual patterns that are hindering our lives and relationships. This allows us to experience a deep sense of joy, connection and cohesion within the group and within ourselves.

Our scientific research has revealed that TaKeTiNa stimulates states of relaxation and increases the heart rate variability. This helps to build resilience, and boosts intuition and creativity. With TaKeTiNa you can immerse yourself in a state of “Simultaneous Perception”, in which you are able to perceive several things at the same time. By doing so, the feelings of presence and inner stillness become apparent.

In our daily life, Taketina can help people to:

✓ develop the qualities and skills necessary for living in today’s complex and chaotic world,

✓ build up physical, emotional and mental resilience,

✓ develop the experience of the present moment and inner peace,

✓ stay focused for an exceptionally long time

✓ open the space of perception of the moment in which several events take place at the same time, which increases the ability to process information more quickly

✓ understand chaos as the creative force of life and find an effective way to deal with it

✓ enjoy the feeling of “not knowing”

In music, TaKeTiNa can help:

✓ to develop a deep rhythmic orientation

✓ getting to know basic rhythmic building blocks

✓ to develop the ability to improvise in any style of music

✓ to improve your musical skills

✓ to solve the fear of making mistakes when playing at a concert

✓ to learn to understand many different rhythmic styles of our world

✓ to improve your right-left coordination

TaKeTiNa trainings in rhythm pedagogy and rhythm therapy has been offered worldwide since 1984 – in Europe, the USA, Australia and Brazil. After a successful 1st TaKeTiNa Training in São Paulo, Brazil, Reinhard Flatischler, the founder of TaKeTiNa, will conduct the 2nd Teacher Training in Brazil, together with Gustavo Gitti and Anna-Maria Flatischler.

The TaKeTiNa Teacher Training is a unique combination of rhythmical training and personal development. The training is held in English with translation to Portuguese and Spanish (if needed).

This training is suitable for you if you:

✓ enjoy working with people

✓ intend to boost your rhythmical skills

✓ want to lead groups with confidence, authenticity and inner joy

✓ wish to help people overcome their personal limits and flourish in their potential

✓ want to develop stillness, intuition, creativity and presence

✓ want to grow personally and develop yourself

We especially recommend this training for musicians, artists, performers, healers, teachers, social workers and people who work in other creative or therapeutic professions or leading positions.

2º set: get to know the structure of a TaKeTiNa process; deepening of Berimbau and Surdo skills; increase vocal resonance, interval singing and call evolution.

3º set: participants individually guide parts of a TaKeTiNa process; Conga or Framedrum lessons; pooling of Berimbau, Surdo and voice.

4º set: induction and integration: preparing a group for the TaKeTiNa process and seeking collective feedback; each participant guides a full TaKeTiNa process – with focus on leading – part 1; integrating the Framedrum / Conga in the Drum Openings.

5º set: each participant guides a full TaKeTiNa process – with focus on leading – part 2; leading and experiencing TaKeTiNa; journeys over a longer period; improve call evolutions; deepening and preparation of the content for the exam.

6º set: exams. In the last training set, each participant leads a 90-minute TakeTiNa workshop session. The workshop will be held in public. The other participants and the leaders will observe and reflect on the process. Everyone receives detailed feedback and certification after passing the exam.

Instruments

Besides the body and the voice, Surdo and Berimbau are the main instruments in TaKeTiNa. These instruments introduce the necessary rhythmical information for the process as well as the basic tone.

Surdo

The Surdo is a cylindrical bass drum from Brazil. It is the heartbeat of TaKeTiNa and establishes the rhythmic foundation by accompanying the participants’ steps. It helps make the cycle and basic pulse tangible. Like no other drum, the Surdo has the potential to sound very powerful and yet, when guiding the group into stillness, it can sound extremely soft.

While playing the Surdo, the leader guides the participants into stepping and clapping. By synchronously speaking freely and playing in rhythm, “Simultaneous Perception” can be reached.

Berimbau

The Berimbau consists of a string, a bow and the cabaça. This one string instrument brings the basic tone into the process and enables people with no prior experience to sing in tune. Although the instrument looks simple, it requires a complex playing technique. In the TaKeTiNa Teacher Training you will learn both supportive patterns and variations, which generate groove.

Framedrum or Conga

Participants will learn a creative way of playing the Framedrum or Conga, which is particularly suitable for accompanying the TaKeTiNa process.

Learning to play a drum with TaKeTiNa involves the whole body: steps, arm movements and the voice. Drum stands provide the possibility to include TaKeTiNa steps and rattle accompaniment.  The Conga and Framedrum are used in the Drum Opening in the beginning of each set. This way of playing the drums will enable you to:

  • speak and sing freely while playing
  • realize different rhythmic layers at the same time
  • build up musical complexity even when the hands play a simple rhythm
  • improvise from the beginning

Bilaterals

Bilaterals are both – instruments and exercises. As the name says, the focus is on synchronizing the two hemispheres with each other and creating new neural connections. The exercises, developed by Reinhard Flatischler, are so effective that REMO has produced a special “TaKeTiNa Bilateral Set” which consists of a rattle and a clicker. Four different rhythmic layers can be built up with the bilaterals – with voice, steps, a clicker in one hand, and a rattle in the other. This doesn’t only improve the left-right coordination and rhythmical orientation, but it also leads to “Simultaneous Perception”. As a result, more information can be processed stress-free.

Bilaterals also help with internalizing the rhythmical layers of a TaKeTiNa journey and ground these within the body.

We will give each participant precise information and tips on purchasing the instruments. Don’t worry.
